Youth Concert Letters
I just attended your Youth Concert: "Time Travelers: The Orchestra Grows Up" on Friday along with my son and several other home-schoolers and their children. It was a wonderful experience for us all! Thank you for your efforts in creating such a learning experience and making it available to so many young people. The combination of delivering brief information on each of the composers and your selection of interesting pieces of their music helped us to understand the composers and their musical style. Also, my son particularly enjoyed watching the orchestra "grow" with each composer and couldn't wait for the drums to appear! He liked hearing the sounds of the various instruments as they were introduced—it helped him to focus on what to listen for in each piece of music.
Please thank your musicians for us as well, for they did a fabulous job and really seemed to enjoy the whole performance. Altogether, our experience with your Symphony Association has been a wonderful one. We hope to attend next year's Youth Concert as well as others throughout the year.

It was my pleasure to attend your children’s Toy Box concert last week. I enjoyed every minute of the music and I want to commend your choice of selections for the concert. Each piece was a delight, and I especially admire your featuring a particular instrument for each selection. What a charming educational experience the concert was! Children and adults alike were transfixed. And your obvious enjoyment of your task was a joy to behold!
Thank you so much for quite an enjoyable experience.

On behalf of the students and staff of South Pasadena High School, I would like to thank you for the outstanding assembly presented on Friday, May 15. I have heard positive comments from students attending the assembly.
The success of the assembly was because of the quality of the presentation. The conductor, Ms. Wittry, was outstanding! She had an outstanding rapport with our young people and was able to involve them in a unique way. Her ability to relate well with the students was what allowed the young people to consider this assembly as one of the best we had the entire year. This was truly a “top-notch” educational experience for our students.

The presentation was wonderfully conceived and executed so that the students were engaged in the musical process from beginning to end. Diane, as Education Director of the Symphony Association, incorporated such appealing ideas to gain the intellectual and emotional commitment of the audience of the general student population! The clever visual hooks she used to promote interest and attention were just right.
She also used fundamental educational principals in always giving the students specific things to listen for or specific instructions for their controlled participation. The pacing of the program was also just right. The students were most attentive, and they came away from the concert having thoroughly enjoyed the experience and eagerly anticipating their next opportunity to hear a symphony orchestra. Making music approachable and enjoyable for the general student audience is the way we begin to build tomorrow’s adult audiences.
Thank you for this fine contribution to the aesthetic lives of our children. Please express my thanks and appreciation to Diane as well.

I am writing to tell you about a visit made to our school by Diane Wittry on April 20th. Diane visited our school at my invitation, and did a superb job of working with my students in preparation for our performance at the Region IX UIL Orchestra Concert.
Diane Wittry’s high standards and unique ability to motivate young adults was immediately evident. Diane exhibited such a fresh and vibrant approach that the students were extremely disappointed to leave, even after a solid and productive 1 ½ hours of rehearsal!
Diane was clear and concise in her directions to the students, and her style was, at once, professional and congenial. This combination of talents yielded artistic and tangible musical results. Indeed, we are all indebted to her for helping us to achieve our goals of a more beautiful performance, and excellent ratings at Contest!
I have no doubt in my mind that Diane Wittry’s work with our orchestra was a major factor contributing to our “Superior” rating on the stage at UIL. Diane is a fine conductor and teacher with a deep commitment to superior music-making at every level. Because of this, she has earned the respect of myself and my students.

All the teachers and students just couldn’t say enough about how much they enjoyed this year’s concert. Of course the orchestra and Ms. Wittry are always excellent. But adding the Community Music School Chorus, as well as the Allen Academy of the Arts actors really made an impression on the students.
The dialogue made the history, as well as the music, more meaningful and realistic. Thank you very much for all your time, work and thoughtfulness in putting all of that together. I hope you can have the Arts Academy do something every year.
Thanks again for a memorable musical experience. You’re terrific!

….And then – here comes another totally creative – totally communicative experience – fresh and free and so much fun – the youth concerts! From the clowns to the student conductor at the end, your presentation was such a total experience – so very sensitive in so many ways. Bravo!
You are a treasure, Diane, I am so glad you came. I hope you stay a long, long time.
With deep and sincere appreciation,
